water wows

Preventing basement flooding

I'll admit that one of the times I found an excessive amount of water on the basement floor where it didn't belong was not my son's fault. However the other two significant times that found myself bailing the basement as though I was in a leaky boat, were definitely on him.

I decided that 3 incidents of flooding were enough of a reason to put in an alarm that would hopefully minimize the amount of cleanup needed if the cause was caught quickly.

Still in progress is the installation of a NO solenoid valve at the point the water supply enters the house, that will close when the alarm is triggered.

I also thought,....this could be another cool electronics project.

Hopefully no more water surprises

A six zone water sensor and alarm

Thankfully I have friends that know way more than me. This one was skiing in BC but took the time to sketch this schematic for me.
