Originally this bathroom was deficient in so many ways. The most obvious was that it was ugly, but worse, it managed to be boring as well.
Powder rooms tend to be small and this one was no exception. The large vanity that sat on the floor that the builder installed, made it feel that much smaller still.
Electricity was shared with 3 other bathrooms which would occasionally lead to the breaker being tripped which left the occupant, who was innocent of wrong doing, in the dark.
Often this bathroom was the one used when coming in from outside with dirty hands so the less needed to be touched the cleaner things stayed.
Being the bathroom company would use motivated me to look for solutions that would help users have better privacy from sounds that may or may not be created during use.
Incredibly functional yet aesthetically pleasing
Builder basic and truly uninspiring...okay,..UGLY!
I can honestly say that making this custom elbow for the ceiling fan venting pipe to drop under a joist and over before turning downward to run inside the wall was a challenge. CAD was required to figure how to make it once I made a rough cardboard prototype.
To have a counter that appears to float there needs to be a structure added that will invisibly carry the weight of it and to a reasonable degree, the weight of someone leaning on it.
Finally the part that excited everyone else could begin. It was about this time that I discovered tile leveling aids. I don't install tile day in and day out so I found these to be extremely helpful in producing a great result.
When it came to the question of how to illuminate the powder room, my thinking went along these lines. I would always want to turm on a light in a room that has no natural light source; so why not just make to so the lights come on automatically when you enter.
